About Banting.com

William Banting was the first documented long term weight loss patient, in the years 1862/63.

After a 20-30 year struggle, William lost 23 kgs / 50 lbs excess weight, and 13 inches / 33cm from his waistline (belly button measurement), and he never had a weight problem ever again for the rest of his life.

William lost his excess weight before Calories, Kilojoules and BMI (Body Mass Index) were ever used as nutrition and health guages like they are today.

William Banting is my 4 Greats Grandfather, and I too had a similar struggle with my own excess weight, in 2018, having weighed a little over 100 kgs / 220 lbs, I set out to figure out how William lost his excess weight, it took 12 months to figure it out, and I learned so many valuable weight loss strategies that were hiding in plain sight.

Long term weight loss strategies not only in William's letters, but also in books written by members of the medical community in the late 1800's and early 1900's, including by the doctor known as the father of modern medicine, Sir William Osler, author of The Principles and Practice of Medicine textbook, ‘Banting’ was the first recommended treatment for Obesity by Dr Osler in the first 9 editions of his textbook.

Back then, ‘Banting’ was the word used around the world to reduce a person's excess weight and waistline through dietary intake, I'm bringing the word ‘Banting’ back using a new weight / waistline reduction term called ‘Banting Balance’, Banting Balance is a 'slower than keto' weight loss speed that I think was key to William's long term weight loss.

With the Banting.com long term weight loss tracking app, I'm tying in how William tracked his weight and waistline reduction with a new, easy to understand and implement waistline marker called Waist to Height (WtH) Ratio, Waist to Height Ratio is an alternative to Body Mass Index (BMI), which can be confusing and misleading for some, it still has place, as you’ll see in the NHS (National Health Service) Waist to Height Ratio linked webpage in the Banting.com app.

The simple calculation for Waist to Height (WtH) Ratio is to have your waistline (belly button measurement) less than half your height, that would be a 50% WtH. The target range to live at is between 40 and 50% Waist to Height (WtH) Ratio, I've been living there now since 2019, as a result of the brilliant foundation William Banting left us so many years ago.

The Banting.com app is simple to use, once you've created your account, it starts with you entering your height in either cm or inches, then anytime you want to record a weight and/or waistline measurement to see what your Waist to Height (WtH) Ratio is, the app automatically calculates it for you, displaying your WtH at the bottom of the home screen, inside either a green or red rectangle, green is when you're between 40-50% WtH, and red when you're above 50% WtH.

There is free education resources available through my Improvement After Movement website, to access them, simply google Improvement After Movement, (this Banting.com app is linked to it too) my goal is make long term weight loss easier to access, no matter how many years you've been trying, for both William and myself, it was between 20 and 30 years.
